The new coin features the Mercury Glacier

Issued in a limited edition of 1,950, the £2 coin in legal tender in the British Antarctic Territory.

Each coin in the six-coin Glaciers of the British Antarctic Territory series, which is produced by Pobjoy Mint and features glaciers named after planets, depicts a planet and a god or goddess. This one features Mercury, the Roman god of commerce, and the planet Mercury.

The Mercury Glacier is on the west coast of Alexander Island and was first sighted on 23 November 1935 by US explorer Lincoln Ellsworth.

The new £2 coin also features the effigy of King Charles lll, and is also available as in a limited edition of 175 fine proof sterling silver.
